UK trip 2016 - day one

Wowie! it's been an entire year since I have posted on this blog of mine.
Yes, it still exists. It is on my instagram bio, after all. (lol)
I have just been so busy and my life has not been very picturesque during this whole nursing school season.
BUT I am almost done with nursing school! (I can't believe it)
Maybe I will have some pictures and funny stories to post this summer because I will be at SharpTop Cove and Young Life camp is always full of unpredictable adventures! (I'm assuming especially for my first nursing job it will definitely be interesting).
Anyway, I have come to write about my trip to England/Ireland I just took.
I had an extended spring break due to only having class on Wednesdays, and being done with clinical - so I took that free time and RAN with it, baby.
I got to see some of my favorite people who I am always missing so much, and it was really really wonderful to be with them once again.
Sophie (from Hertfordshire)
Martha (from Northumberland)
Karen (from Galway)
Katie (from Charleston but studying abroad in Herts!)

I stayed with each of them at their houses throughout the trip, which was truly magical.
It not only gave me insight to where they grew up and being part of their daily lives, but also allowed me to get a pretty good tour of the UK.  They are very spread out!

I'm going to share a series of posts for each day of my trip (11 total I think? To be determined...)
So stay tuned!
Here we go...day one of my trip:

I left on a Wednesday evening from Charleston, but landed in London on Thursday morning where I was greeted by the too precious and lovely faces of Sophie and Karen.
I felt bad because customs literally took AGES, but I was finally in their arms (two hours after I thought I'd be).
We drove to Sophie's to drop our bags off and off to CAMBRIDGE we went!
If you didn't know, Cambridge is a fantastic little university town that I really enjoyed. I was very happy to just be in England in general. So I was loving every second, despite my lack of sleep and too full belly from the plane ride).
We walked around the cute little shops and the university buildings and eventually over to the river side.
There were house boats and rowing boats in the water and it reminded me of canals in my sweet Holland.
I almost got run over by a bike, and we found freshly squeezed orange juice. (Just adding to the Netherlands vibe, here).
Side note - I also bought a new Lush face wash, Angels on Bare Skin and I luuurv it. (Sorry, off topic, but I needed to share - for all you sensitive problem skin folks out there!)
Anyway, Cambridge was all in all lovely and I think you will see what I mean based on the pictures below.

Technically, this is Sophie's street. (pub across from her house!)

And this is her house! Isn't it lovely?

view of her "garden" aka back yard

a slightly more artsy shot

Sophie's sweet kitchen (tea time!!!!)

We're on the wrong side of the road! (hehe)

And now, this is Cambridge.

Freshly squeezed is best-ly squeezed.

These two..

This is their library...

Library from a different angle.

I thought the colors on this were nice.

Not sure which college this is, soz.

She blocked my view of Jesus Lane.

See?

I spy fairy lights.

So whimsical!

Ignore the tilt of this photo and enjoy how cute England is.

"Seven swans a swimming..." or just one sleeping

Very Dutch, I must say.

I nearly forgot to mention maybe one of the best parts about this day.
We came home to homemade lasagna by Sophie's dad and shared a cheap bottle of M&S wine.
It was probably the best lasagna I've ever had in my life. Anyway, more food endeavors to share later on. (Involving a lot of tea and a lot of cake).

Look out for more in the upcoming days/week(s) for the rest of my trip!
I'll get all the pictures up eventually.

xoxo
